Concepts of Self-awareness: Schinkel's Reception of Fichte from a Transcendental Philosophical Perspective
Ein Vortrag von Prof. Dr. Petra Lohmann an der Columbia University
Schinkel's reception of Fichte is an outstanding example of the philosophical impressions of architectural theory in Germany around 1800. This lecture shows how Schinkel gives an aesthetic picture of transcendental philosophical explications of self-consciousness. In this context, he formulates a theory of the cultivation of the individuum in which he critically reflects the possibilities and limits of philosophical concepts and aesthetic images. The central object of this project is the determination of the relationship between freedom and nature.
